2006 Budget
Treasurer Mae W presented the 2006 budget, which was printed in the February
newsletter.
Budget highlights:
| The 2006 Budget is planning for extra spending, ie to spend more than the club will earn in 2006. | |
| After the end of 2006, there will be $1000 less in assets. | |
| The conservative estimate is that the income from the plant sale will be the same as last year. |
Community Benefit Expenses include:
| $1000 will be budgeted for Civil Beds | |
| $300 for library donations | |
| $800 for UWRF horticulture scholarships | |
| $150 for Share the Bounty | |
| $500 for tree maintenance |
Member Margaret S had a question related to the budget: Did anyone from the club notify UWRF that the Horticulture Scholarship no longer requires a student to speak to the club? Susan R will contact Dr. Terry Ferris in the Horticulture Department with information about the scholarship requirements.
Mae noted that green aprons were purchased for members to wear during the plant sale, which was an additional plant sale cost.
Nancy S made a motion to accept the budget as presented, seconded by Deb B. Motion passed.
Susan R pointed out a mistake in the 2006 Speaker schedule. The description for the April meeting is the same as for the March meeting. The description for the April meeting will be printed correctly in the March newsletter. There are hand-outs of the corrected schedule if needed.
Announcements
The UWRF Horticulture Society is presenting a program on weeds that can be used as herbs on February 15 at 6pm in Room 114 in the Ag-Sci building. This is a free one hour long program. It should be safe to park in the permit lots but you must let security know you are attending a program.
Jamie H discussed details of the August field trip. The club will be visiting the Shady Acres Herb Farm in Chaska, MN at 10am for a tour of unique herbs and heirloom vegetables. Plants can be purchased and there is a gift shop. Members will need to car pool. It will take about 1.5 hours to travel to Chaska. Car pool details will be discussed in the future.
Nancy S suggested that since members will already be in Chaska for the tour, some members could also go to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. The cost is $7.00.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Jamie H, seconded by Mae W. Motion passed.
