Minutes of the October 7, 2002 Meeting
submitted by Lori N.
The meeting was called to order by President Anne K. Mae W. gave the Treasure's Report. There is a net worth of $7114.96 with about half of it ($3750.65) in the Heritage Park CD, and most of the rest in savings. There are 12 car wash token at $5 each available to any member (please contact Mae) which were originally purchased in advance for WellHaven residents unconvinced by our use of their parking garage for our annual plant sale. Since September there was an income of $10 and expenses of $87 (postage, print and copy costs of the newsletter, Share the Bounty, and meeting supplies). Margaret S. made a motion to accept the report, with Susan R. seconding. Motion passed.
Margaret S. made a correction to the September minutes that Mae be reimbursed for her expenses, which were estimated to be approximately $50, rather than the even$50 as written in the minutes. Ursula P. made a motion to accept the minutes as corrected, Judy J. seconded, motion passed.
Anne K. asked members to think about and suggest community projects our funds could be used to support. In the 2002 budget, $200 was available for for civic and school bed planting projects. The question was asked if we need to set criteria for how this is used. A suggestion was made that since the planting season is over for the year, and since the education box made by the Garden Club has been so popular with area teachers that it has been difficult for some teachers to reserve us of it, that making a duplicate education box might be appropriate. Kim K. will talk to Susan, the children's librarian, to see about the possibility of having/funding a duplicate box. Anne K. recommended tabling discussion until November after Kim has had a chance to talk with Susan.
Anne K. passed around a letter from a travel agency about attending the Chelsea Flower Show next May.
A member brought up about seeing gardens during the summer and fall. Carolyn B. suggested the River Falls Garden Club might be interested in joining the bus tours arranged by Sue K. of the St Croix Valley Master Gardeners Association. Carolyn will talk with Sue K. to see what she thinks.
