Minutes from April 2, 2001 Meeting
by Vicky Sullivan
President M.S. Called the meeting to order. Minutes from the March meeting were approved.
Treasurer M.W. gave the Treasurer's Report: a total net worth of $5432.57 including $3289.52 in the Heritage park CD. Income increased by $42, and expenses since last meeting were $1151 which included major expenses of $200 (Dolores Dopkins memorial garden bed), $800 (UW-RF scholarships) and $70 speaker fee (Dean Hanson).
Vice-President N.G. reported about the plant sale, scheduled for Saturday, May 19 from 9am - noon. Set up will be Friday, May 18 from 5-8pm and also Saturday morning beginning at 7am. Member presale will begin around 8:30am with sale open for the public at 9am. Members will receive 50% of the profits from plants/crafts they contribute.
Following a discussion by members, a recommendation was made that the presale be open to garden club members who in some way contribute to the plant sale - labor, plants, planning, etc. with all members being welcome at the time it's open to the public.
There was also a discussion about the high number of plants purchased during the presale which left considerably less available to the public at 9am. A member also commented about so few "good plants" being available even though she came at 9am. A motion was made by M.W., seconded by J.A. to recommend members at the presale purchase no more than 10 plants each but purchase additional plants during the public portion of the sale. Motion carried.
A.K. discussed the opportunity for the RFGC to make fresh flower arrangements for the art show (CAB) at the RF library. The art show will be set up on June 2, and A. asked for interest in creating flower arrangements for the pottery exhibit, probably on Sunday, June 3. A number of members raised tier hands. A. will ask for sign up at the next meeting. She also recommended the Monday June 4 meeting of the Garden Club have time available for members to vote for their favorite artwork which would be made into a poster for the Artfull Garden Tour.
K.K. reviewed options for the garden club if it would like a web page - costs, name, information which could be put on it. Further discussion will continue at the next meeting.
R.R. suggested that the Garden Club could provide help with Habitat for Humanity by working with a greenhouse and homeowner to help them get started gardening and continue with return visits. If you are interested with opportunity, please call R.
